The Best Black Bean Sliders!

Summer is right around the corner and you know what that means. It’s time to grill out, go for a swim, take a hike and head to the beach! There’s so many things to love about summer but one of the very best is the food! Fresh corn on the cob, BBQ baked beans,  juicy slices of watermelon and of course, burgers! This summer try a new take on the burger by making these black bean sliders. They are so flavorful and delicious, I bet you’ll be making these a lot this summer.

Unlike a lot of black bean burger recipes, these burgers only include basic veggies and spices that you probably already have in your home. All you have to do is rinse your black beans and pat them dry before placing them in a large mixing bowl. Finely chop your onion and bell pepper so that that there are no big pieces. This will help the veggies and the beans combine into a nice burger patty. Also, make sure to squeeze out all the excess water from the veggies so that all the extra liquid does not go into your black bean sliders.

Using a masher, mash the beans and veggies together until combined. Then add the spices in and combine into the mixture.

Add in the fresh bread crumbs and incorporate into the mix. I make my fresh bread crumbs by adding a slice of bread into my food processor and pulsing until I get nice coarse crumbs.

Shape the mixture into patties and set in the fridge to chill for at least one hour or until ready to use them. I love making these in advance and then having them all ready to go for dinner time!

Fry the patties in oil for 2-3 minutes on each side flipping only once. In order to keep their shape, don’t press them down with a spatula. Add cheese if desired while they are still warm so that it gets nice and melty. Then transfer them to a bun with leaf lettuce and sliced tomato and onion. Yum!

  • 1/2 Cup Onion (chopped)
  • 1/2 Cup Bell Pepper (Chopped)

  • 1/2 Tsp. Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 Tbsp. Cumin
  • 1/2 Cup Fresh Bread Crumbs

Instructions
  1. Rinse the black beans and pat them dry. Add them to a large mixing bowl.
  2. Finely chop the onion and bell pepper. Pat dry to get rid of the excess liquid and add to the bowl with the black beans.
  3. Mash the beans and veggies together until combined. Then add the salt, cayenne pepper and cumin. Continue to mix until the spices are incorporated.
  4. Add the fresh breadcrumbs and continue to mix, fully incorporating all the ingredients together.
  5. Shape into small patties and place on a baking sheet lined with wax paper. Chill in the refrigerator for one hour or until ready to use.
  6. Fry the patties in oil for 2-3 minutes on each side, flipping only once.
  7. Enjoy with your choice of toppings!
