I’ve been on a real blueberry kick recently. Blueberry cobbler, blueberry syrup, blueberry jam. I just can’t get enough blueberry everything! Today I want to share my recipe for blueberry jam with you. It’s a very simple recipe to make and only requires 3 ingredients, blueberries, sugar and lemon juice.
This recipe not only tastes amazing but makes a small batch so you don’t have to worry about canning or sealing or any of that. I just put my blueberry jam in a glass jam jar and it keeps in the refrigerator for up to four weeks…not that it ever lasts that long!
Blueberry jam is good on so many things including popovers, toast and bagels.
Jam As Easy as 1,2,3!
To start making your jam, place the blueberries, sugar and lemon juice into a small saucepan. Make sure to thoroughly wash your blueberries first and get rid of any stems, debris or rotten berries. Then place the saucepan over medium heat and give it a quick stir to distribute the sugar and lemon juice among the blueberries.
Don’t worry about not having enough liquid in the pan. The sugar will draw out the natural water in the blueberries giving plenty of liquid in your jam. All you have to do is wait a few moments and you will start to see for yourself!
Don’t Worry About Juiciness
As the blueberries continue to simmer you will notice they will start to look more and more like jam. Keep stirring often while they continue to simmer, about 25 minutes. It will still look like there is berry pieces and excess liquid up until the very end. Even when you shut the heat off, it might seem like there is a bit of extra liquid but as the jam cools, everything will meld together.
You will end up with a final product that is thick and spreadable like from the store, but that tastes so much better. My favorite way to enjoy this jam is pictured above. I spread a bagel with a thin layer of cream cheese and then top it will blueberry jam. It is such a delicious breakfast or anytime treat!
