There are so many different ways to customize a pizza. With all the combinations of dough, sauces, cheeses and toppings, no two pizzas are exactly alike. The emphasis of a pizza usually seems to be on the toppings. So today, I thought I would focus on an often overlooked but very important component: the sauce.
I believe that a good pizza sauce can make all the difference in the taste of your pizza. When made with fresh ingredients and spices, it gives your pizza so much extra flavor. I like to start with fresh tomatoes. All you have to do is put them into the bowl of a food processor and pulse until well pureed. The best decision I ever made was investigating in a good high quality food processor, it’s key to making the perfect pizza sauce. Trust me, you won’t regret getting it!
Transfer the pureed tomatoes to a saucepan and add 1/2 cup water and 2 tbsp. oil. Season the sauce with salt, basil and parsley and let simmer for about 20 minutes, as shown above. It will start to thicken and look like the picture below, the perfect pizza sauce. This recipe makes the exact amount of sauce needed for 1 14″ pizza. And as it just so happens, I have the perfect pizza dough recipe!
This pizza sauce recipe only takes a few minutes to prep. The rest of the time it is simmering on the stove top, making your whole home smell delicious. You can even put the sauce on to simmer as you prepare your dough and get your toppings ready. With such a quick and easy recipe, there is no reason to ever go back to the store-bought jarred kind.
Tip for Tasty Pizza:
Chop all the veggies you plan on using as pizza toppings in a food processor. Not only is it much quicker to do it this way, it also makes your pizza taste better. The food processor will not only dice your veggies, but also a nice, thin consistency and look…just like in restaurants! This gives you more distributed pizza toppings for a pizza that’s delicious at every bite!
