Soft and Chewy Sugar Cookies with Butter Cream Frosting

Soft and Chewy Sugar Cookies with Butter Cream Frosting

Here is a classic cookie recipe with an old-fashioned taste! Sugar cookies are perfect for bake sales, cookie exchanges or a week night dessert. This is definitely a dessert that everyone can agree on! Serve them up with a tall glass of milk and these will disappear quick…I guarantee it!

One of the great things about sugar cookies is that you almost definitely have everything to make them right in your pantry. So when the mood strikes for something sweet, whip up a batch of these delicious cookies without having to go out for any special ingredients.

The first step for making this dough is creaming  3/4 cup sugar and 1/2 cup butter together until light and fluffy.

Next stir in the 1/4 cup milk and 1 tsp. vanilla. Mix together the 1 1/2 cups flour, 1 tsp. baking powder, 1/4 tsp. baking soda, 1/4 tsp. salt. then sift into the creamed butter and sugar mixture. Let the dough chill in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.

Scoop heaping tablespoons of the dough onto a baking sheet lined with a silpat. Bake in an oven preheated to 375 ℉ for 12-15 minutes or until the edges start to turn golden brown.

Make sure to get them out before they get too brown and crispy. Just to ensure that they stay nice and soft. Let them sit on the baking sheet for a minute or two and then transfer to a wire rack to let cool completely.

Once the cookies have cooled, make the buttercream frosting to top the cookies with. Add the butter into the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Begin stirring as you sift in the powdered sugar. Stir in the vanilla and milk as you continue to stir. Stir until you get a nice thick consistency for frosting cookies. Tint the frosting with a bit of food coloring if desired.

The nice thing about this recipe is that you can use any color for the frosting and any kind of sprinkles you want. Orange frosting with little bat sprinkles for Halloween or pastel yellow with little bunny sprinkles for Easter. These are yours to customize! I used pink frosting with pink sprinkles because pink is my favorite color! Then, using a rubber spatula, spread the top of each cookie with some of your customized frosting and top with sprinkles of your choice!
