Homemade Sweet and Sour Sauce

Homemade Sweet and Sour Sauce

I was never a big fan of sweet and sour sauce before making it homemade. That bright red stuff that comes in little packets from Chinese food restaurants pales in comparison to making it yourself. This sauce is so thick and smooth and full of flavor, it’s going to be your favorite part of having Chinese food night!

My recipe uses only natural ingredients. No ketchup or dyes or anything like that here! Just a wonderful unique blend of flavors as the spiciness of the cayenne pepper meets the sweetness of the pineapple juice and brown sugar. The natural coloring is far more beautiful in my opinion anyway and way more tasty! You’ll just have to try it for yourself, no words can really do it justice.

All you have to do to make this exquisite sweet and sour sauce is add the corn starch and water to a small sauce pan. Stir to combine until it it’s smooth and milky in appearance. Place the pan over medium-high heat and add the pineapple juice, soy sauce, rice vinegar and oil. Bring to a boil stirring occasionally. Add the brown sugar and cayenne pepper and continue to cook until the sauce has started to thicken, about three to five minutes. Remove from heat and let cool. As it cools, it will thicken even more. This sauce pairs perfectly with my Crispy Chicken Egg Roll Recipe. Happy Dipping!
